Hydro-Pneumatic Fenders

Hydro fenders / submarine fenders were developed from pneumatic fenders, but unlike a standard pneumatic fender, the hydro fender floats vertically. This is achieved by filling water into the fender body and equipping ballast typically in the form of a counterweight at the bottom. The hydro fender features a low approach pressure and a low reaction force, which helps provide better protection for the vessels.

The hydro fender was designed to use for submarine, semi-submerged ships, etc. which have underwater berthing requirement of STD or STS.

Configuration:

A hydro fender consists of 3 parts:

1  Body:

The elliptical body is made of an inner rubber layer, a reinforced synthetic-tire-cord middle layer and an outer rubber layer, thickness varies from 10mm to 18mm.

The inner rubber layer is made to avoid air-leakage and keep the pressure stable.

The reinforced synthetic-tire-cord middle layer is the frame of the fender body.

The outer rubber layer is made to protect the fender body from wearing and damage from vessels.

2 Top flange:

The top flange consists of the fixed inside flange and air inflation device. The fixed inside flange fastens the outer part and air inflation hole. The air inflation device are made up of a system of different valves: a air ball valve, a water valve, a safety valve, a pressure testing valve and a protection cover.

3 Bottom flange:

The bottom flange consists of an inner and outer flange. The inner flange is inserted inside the fender body and the outer flange connects to the ballast by chains.

Complete system

Apart from the fender body itself a complete system also includes:

  • Backboard: A welding frame structure that can be customized.

  • Ballast: Steel plate welding shell with filler. Designed according to the fender water/air ratio and water

All Fender Service pneumatic fenders are produced in accordance to ISO17357-1:2014, which is the newest standard of high-pressure pneumatic fenders. ISO17357-1:2014 “Ships and marine technology - Floating pneumatic rubber fenders - Part 1: High pressure”.

This certification ensures the standard of the products, such as design, material and the performance test every fender has undergone, to ensure the overall quality of the product.
